COMPATIBILITY & SIZE GUIDE

Choosing the right size is essential for even tamping, better distribution and a more stable espresso extraction.

For most tampers and distributors, the size refers to the inner diameter of the basket inside your portafilter. The best way to choose the right accessory is to check your portafilter size, not only your machine brand.

How to find your size

The most reliable method is to measure the inside of your filter basket — the area where the coffee is tamped.

Most home and semi-professional espresso machines use one of these sizes:

  • 51mm — commonly used by many De’Longhi machines

  • 54mm — commonly used by Sage / Breville machines

  • 58mm — commonly used by Gaggia, Rancilio, Lelit, Rocket, ECM, Profitec, La Marzocco and many E61-style machines

If your measurement is close to 51mm, choose 51mm.
If it is close to 54mm, choose 54mm.
If it is close to 58mm, choose 58mm.

Common examples

Here are some common examples, depending on the model:

  • De’Longhi Dedica EC680 / EC685 — often 51mm

  • Sage / Breville Barista Express — often 54mm

  • Sage / Breville Bambino / Bambino Plus — often 54mm

  • Sage / Breville Barista Pro / Touch — often 54mm

  • Gaggia Classic / Classic Pro — often 58mm

  • Rancilio Silvia — often 58mm

  • Rocket, ECM, Profitec, Lelit E61 and other E61 machines — often 58mm

  • La Marzocco — often 58mm

This list is indicative only. Compatibility can vary depending on the exact machine version, portafilter and basket.

What about 53.3mm or 58.5mm?

Some accessories use more precise sizing:

  • 53.3mm usually corresponds to 54mm machines

  • 58.5mm usually corresponds to 58mm machines

This is normal. These slightly adjusted sizes are designed to create a more precise fit inside the basket.

Tamper, distributor and tamping station

A tamper should match your basket size to help avoid uneven tamping.

A distributor / leveler should also match the basket size to level the coffee grounds correctly before tamping.

A tamping station is different. It is usually based on portafilter compatibility rather than basket diameter, so always check the product description.
